Jon Shehan
Head Coach

In just four seasons, Millersville alum Jon Shehan has built the Marauder baseball program into a contender at the conference, regional and national levels.

He inherited a club that went 9-37 in 2007 but has since won two PSAC Eastern Division crowns, a NCAA Atlantic Region Championship, and produced the winningest season in school history. Shehan, a 2006 graduate of Millersville, boasts 114 wins and was the second-fastest in school history to 100 career wins. He also ranks second all-time in career winning percentage. He has developed 22 All-PSAC East honorees, eight All-Atlantic Region selections, four Atlantic Region Gold Glove winners and a Major League Baseball draft pick.

Shehan led his club to a dominating 44-12 record in the 2011 season. His squad posted a 37-8 regular season record and won the PSAC East going away. The 19-5 record was seven games better than the runner-up. It was his second PSAC East crown in four seasons. The Marauders went on to sweep the NCAA Atlantic Regional as its top seed and reached the NCAA Division II Championship for just the second time in school history.

The team led or ranked second in the PSAC in 20 stat categories. At season's end, six Marauders were named All-PSAC East and seven gained All-Atlantic Region mention. Shehan was named ABCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

Shehan's first PSAC Eastern Division title came in 2008. As a first-year interim head coach, he guided the program to its first division championship in eight years. Millersville also made its first playoff appearance since 2000 and won two postseason contests. The success came from a team which had finished 9-37 the season before and opened up 2008 with a 6-20 record. Millersville then won 16 of its next 18 games to finish 12-8 in the division and 24-26 overall.

The remarkable turnaround earned him PSAC East Coach of the Year honors. Shehan’s guidance helped his players earn four All-PSAC East selections, the PSAC East Rookie of the Year award and a regional gold glove.

In 2009, he guided the Marauders its second-straight season of 24 victories and also posted the programs first winning season in eight years. At season’s end, pitcher Derek Kline was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the MLB First-Year Player draft, becoming Millersville’s first selection since 2001.

Prior to becoming head coach, Shehan completed a two-year stint as the Marauder assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. His duties included working with the Marauder hitters and catchers. He was given the tough responsibility of rebuilding the Marauder roster during the 2006-07 academic year. His first recruiting class resulted in 16 commitments, including nine high school signings and seven transfers.

As a the hitting coach in 2006, Shehan helped the Marauders improve their offensive statistics from 2005 in almost every category, including average (.267 to .307), on base percentage (.339 to .372), slugging percentage (.360 to .424) and home runs (12 to 26).

Shehan, a career .328 hitter at Millersville, finished his Marauder playing career in 2004. He earned All-PSAC First Team honors as a catcher and led the NCAA in doubles per game (0.60). Shehan broke the Marauder single-season record for doubles (23) and led the squad in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.397), slugging percentage (.678), hits (48), runs (30), and RBIs (28).

Following his final season with the Marauders, Shehan signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves organization. In 2004, he played for the Gulf Coast Braves before earning a promotion to single-A Rome. In 2005, he was a member of the Appalachian League Eastern Division-Champion Danville Braves. Also in 2005, Shehan was the catching instructor for the Pennsylvania AAA High School State Champion Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers.

He is currently a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Shehan received a bachelor’s degree in technology education from Millersville in 2006 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sport management. Shehan and his wife, Lindsay (Millersville ’04) are the parents of two sons: Cole and Benjamin.
